My favorite quotes from book:

  • “You and I have gone through a lot in the last few years,”
  • “This was your dream”
  • “Hardly. I gave up silly dreams like that a long time ago.”
  • So much for offering up the appearance of a confident businesswoman.
  • She was her own pilot, copilot and navigator. There was no one to tell her how far to drive, where to stop, or what she could or couldn’t see. And she planned to see all the interesting little tourist traps along the way.
  • “Trust God He’ll fix whatever’s broken”

Characters in book: Maura Sullivan, Pastor Nick Shepherd, Wendell Crowley, Rachel Nelson, Lainie Waters, Pastor Chris Zeeble & Miss Harriet Lenore Granger.

Maura Sullivan never intended to set foot in Granger, Ohio, again. But when circumstances force her to return, she must face all the disappointments she tried so hard to leave behind: a husband who ignored her, a congregation she couldn’t please, and a God who took away everything she ever loved. Nick Shepherd thought he had put the past behind him, until the day his estranged wife walked back into town. Intending only to help Maura through her crisis of faith, Nick finds his feelings for her never died. Now, he must admit the mistakes he made, how he hurt his wife, and find a way to give and receive forgiveness.

As God works in both of their lives, Nick and Maura start to believe they can repair their broken relationship and reunite as man and wife. But Maura has one more secret to tell Nick before they can move forward. It’s what ultimately drove her to leave him six years earlier, and the one thing that can destroy the fragile trust they’ve built. ( from back cover)

My Overview: I’ll have to admit that it was the title of this book that drew me in by curiosity! However, as I read from page one to the very last page, I found myself involved with the characters & the people of the community of Granger.

My favorite quotes from book:

  • God I don't want them in heaven. I want them here!
  • I used to be a cop, a husband,a father,a Christian, What am I when I've lost all those markers except Christian? And When God lets you lose all that defines you, what does it mean to be a Christian?
  • You've got to love a man who loves your pet.
  • Lord, your Word says our times are in Your hands. Will I ever be in a situation where my timing and a guy's time- Greg's timing-are in sync?
  • God, if You're there, don't let me let her down.
  • Inspire of the new complications I haven't sorted out yet, Lord, life's good. Not great exactly, but good.
  • God, are You there? Can you hear me? I am so scared!
  • My issue is lack of trust, not guilt.

Characters in book: Carrie Carter,Lindsey Carter,Greg Barnes,Andi Mueller, Jase Peoples & Mary Prudence

She serves him breakfast at her café every morning … but he never seems to notice her.

Carrie Carter’s small café in Seaside, New Jersey, is populated with a motley crew of locals … although Carrie only has eyes for Greg Barnes. He’s recovering from a vicious crime that three years ago took the lives of his wife and children—and from the year he tried to drink his reality away. While her heart does a happy Snoopy dance at the sight of him, he never seems to notice her, to Carrie’s chagrin.

When Carrie’s dishwasher is killed and her young waitress disappears, Greg finds himself drawn into helping Carrie solve the mysteries … and into her life. But when Carrie’s own painful past becomes all to present, her carefully constructed world begins to sink.

Will the fragile relationship she’s built with Greg implode from the weight of the baggage they both carry? (back of the book)

My Overview: When Carrie's dishwasher ends up dead, and her other server ends up missing she can’t help but wonder if there is some sort of connection. Carrie & her younger sister Lindsey own "Carrie's Cafe"! Lindsey loves to bake and Carrie loves to see her little sister happy, safe and content! Both Carrie & Lindsey fled from their home at a young age! They left behind a past that they hoped would never find them. Carrie becomes a "mother like" figure to Lindsey. Now it’s years later and they are settled in & life seems pretty good. Their Life is going along at a normal pace, when tragedy strikes. Has Carrie's past caught up with her or is she just imagining these things?
