My favorite quotes from book:

  • At precisely twelve minutes and thirty-five seconds past ten o'clock in the morning, Central Standard Time, Jillian Galloway's world ceased to exist.
  • "I doubt you believe in just happened." Agnes chuckled. "You're right. Its my euphemism for 'God arranged this.'
  • "Its signing up to get stabbed in the heart again, and this time in front of an audience."
  • "Jill." Jack was looking at her now. "I don't want you to stop talking. Silent is not who you are."
  • "How can I be a knight?"
  • "Then how does a guy keep functioning as a knight?" She took a deep breath. "He notices his wife. He speaks to her. He smiles a special smile just for her. He knows her deepest heart, the place where she dreams big dreams. He confidently does whatever is for her best. He intuits that she is always in distress because that's just the human condition. But he alone can comfort and console and make life easier for her."
  • "God loves to draw us closer to Himself, close enough to hear His heartbeat."

(Info from back of book) When you’re at the top . . . you’ve got a long way to fall. A nationally known marriage expert, Jillian Galloway is at the pinnacle of success. Her syndicated talk radio show is a hit and her first book is about to release. But just as she’s leaving for her West Coast publicity tour, Jill’s faithful husband of twenty-four years drops a bombshell: he wants a divorce.

As her world crashes down around her, Jill flees to her parents’ home in the California desert, wondering if everything she’s built her career on—and everything she’s built her life around—is a sham. She thought she’d done everything right. So how did her marriage slowly slip away? And will she ever get it back?

From best-selling author Sally John comes an insightful and inspiring story about the unexpected detours our lives can take, the lies we sometimes tell ourselves, and the hope that God is always at work, even in the desert.

My Overview:

Jillian & Jack Galloway have been married for over 20 years. They have raised a son together, had successful careers and are about to celebrate a great mile stone in Jill’s life! Jillian Galloway, a nationally known marriage expert, has just published her first book called  “She Said, He Heard”, a Guide to Marital Discourse. As her &  her husband Jack are getting ready to leave for the airport, Jack drops a bombshell on Jill that he wants a divorce! To make matters worse, He tells her to go on her book tour, without him.

Jill really doesn’t want to leave without him! But due to his insistence she goes hoping that Jack will change his mind! They had made special plans to go back to the place they met for their anniversary. However as Jill begins her book tour & the reality of what just happened hits her, she becomes unsure of who she is & is she even qualified to tell others how to have a perfect marriage.

This is a story of how God can use a desert situation in a marriage to bring a couple back into sync with one another. We can follow Jill & Jack as they go through the trying & emotional roller coaster of trying to decide if their marriage is worth saving! Is it too late to try again or are they too different to be able to continue their lives together as man & Wife?

My Thoughts & Comments:

I enjoyed reading about the Galloway's and how they take their marriage to the Lord & ask him for guidance! That being said, I look forward to reading more of Sally John's stories. This is the first book that I ever read by author Sally John. I am pleased to say that I have found another author who writes without compromising her Christian values. There were no sex scenes in this book nor was there any profanity or violence. Sally John makes her characters believable & real. You might find her characters hanging out in a local coffee shop or shopping at your neighborhood grocery store.

This book review only reflects my opinions and thoughts! My desire in writing this book review is for those that want to read a story about how God works in and through people’s lives to help them to communicate with one another.  I wanted to share with others what I liked about this book & why I would recommend it. I did not receive this book through a book blogging program. If you are looking for a story that takes you through a marriage that needs restoration & healing then you'll find this book an enjoyable read! Thank you Sally for a wonderful read!
